Newsletter 1st April – 30th April 2012

This first month of field work has been pretty amazing. With a lot of fish in the bay (mainly capelin) we had the unique chance after a couple of years to encounter on a regular basis the humpback whale, a species which has been pretty absent in the area since 2010. As soon as the food showed up many minke whales populated the bay. White-beaked dolphins were sighted during 11 tours this month and we were all very happy to see them again.
From 1st April to 30th April 2012 17 minke whales, 17 white-beaked dolphins and 15 humpback whales have been photographed and identified. Among them, 5 Minke whales and 4 white-beaked dolphins have been already identified from previous years.
Here we want to present the re-sighted animals to you and tell you a little about each individual sighting history, as well as showing you some of the best photos which were taken by the research team this past month.

Download and Enjoy!

p.s. I very special thanks goes to Sarah and Richard for helping me out in the field this month in collecting photo-IDs of whales and dolphins!
